Class 1

In Class 1 we have a mixed Nursery and Reception class in the morning and a mixed Nursery, Reception and Year 1 class in the afternoon. We strive to support the children in becoming positive, active, independent learners who feel confident in expanding their own knowledge and understanding.

We welcome Nursery children from the age of 3 years and Nursery children can access the 30 hours places if they meet the criteria (please see the link below for further information). We have flexible Nursery hours available which include morning sessions (8.45-12.00) and afternoon sessions (1.00-3.30). The children can also access full day sessions or stay for their dinner between 12.00 and 1.00.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework in Nursery and Reception which outlines the key areas of learning and development and how we can support the children in their learning. Within this framework there are three prime areas (personal, social and emotional development, communication and language and physical development) and four specific areas (literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design). We also aim to develop the characteristics of effective learning (playing and exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically) to support the children in their development as learners.

In Year 1 we follow the National Curriculum developing the children's knowledge in English, Mathematics, Science, Geography, Design and Technology, Physical Education, History, Religious Education, Music, Computing, Art and Design, PSHE and SRE.

Nursery and Reception engage in daily phonics and maths activities in the morning and Nursery, Reception and Year 1 develop their understanding of other curriculum areas through fun activities in the afternoon.

We love learning outside and think that the outdoor environment provides a variety of unique and incredible learning opportunities. During our morning sessions we have free-flow provision which enables the children to choose whether they would like to learn in our indoor or outdoor environments. Due to this we ask parents to provide a spare change of clothes and wellies to enable us to go outside come rain, shine or snow!

Class 1 is taught by Miss Hepworth and supported by Miss Storrow and Mrs Beesley.

We are always happy to answer any questions or if you would like to organise a visit day please get in touch.

Thank you,
