Cumbria in Bloom Awards

We were originally visited by the Cumbria in Bloom judges back in July.  On Thursday 29th September, Keith and Pat returned to present us with our certificates. As this was the first year that we have ever entered Cumbria in Bloom, we were not really sure what to expect - or the standard that was expected by the judging panel and their criteria.

We are thrilled to announce that we were awarded two certificates!

For our overall school grounds, pupil knowledge and engagement, curriculum enrichment and environmental knowledge, we have been awarded not bronze, not silver, not silver-gilt but GOLD! There was the biggest gasp and in-take of breath before three huge rounds of applause! We couldn’t believe it!

On Wednesday 29th September, three ambassadors from our school travelled with Miss Hutton to the Cumbria in Bloom awards in Carlisle Civic Centre. After having a little look at all the regalia in the Civic Centre, we joined all the other Cumbria in Blooms winners in the council chamber to re-receive our awards. It was great to see all of the other winners in all of the different categories although it was a nerve-wracking wait for our award! The judges that visited our school shared some lovely comments about how thrilled we were when they originally gave us our award as well as how clear it was to them that gardening and outdoor learning was a special part of our school curriculum. Eventually, we heard our school name and went to the front to receive our award from the Mayor of Carlisle- what a brilliant experience! We have appeared in the Cumberland News today, too, as well as online on the News and Star website! https://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/23061725.cumbria-bloom-awards-handed-carlisles-civic-centre/
